LIGHT THAT COMFORTS: A Project of Art and Spirituality

Throughout the month of July, in the chapel of the school of Benicarló, we have lived an intense time of shared work through the realization of the project "LIGHT THAT COMFORTS". The mosaic of the Presentation of Jesus in the temple in the apse is the fruit of this project.

The project "Light that comforts" seeks to renew the religious image in the apse of the chapel by creating a contemporary and attractive mosaic. Its objective is to adapt the representation of faith to the current context, effectively communicating religious values and principles to current generations. This effort focuses on collaboration, spirituality and the creation of a meaningful symbol for the school community, facilitating a deeper understanding of the mystery and importance of faith.

Sisters, teachers, priests, laity, young people and children from different places, and with different time availability have participated in the realization of this work. Every morning we started with a guided prayer in the light of the Gospel that motivated the day, asking the Holy Spirit that everything we did and lived that day would be a manifestation of love. Thus, the work we were doing would be inhabited by the same way and would be a channel of encounter with you.

We would get together to work on the mosaic in silence, sharing. This silence allowed us to find ourselves and the God who inhabits us. The shared dialogue allowed us to get to know each other more and share our faith, living an experience of communion through art.

Three days a week, at the end of the day, Sister Lisett Ochoa offered us a catechesis that allowed us to delve little by little into the meaning of the mosaic, the scene it represents and the different characters embodied in it.

The text of the Presentation of Jesus in the temple, which has become the image of the mosaic, has accompanied and enlightened us on this path, inviting us to live the encounter with Jesus and with each other. This interaction between word, matter and image has not only enriched art, but has also served as a vehicle for a deeper understanding of the mystery and importance of faith in our lives.

We are grateful for the experience, especially to Sister Lisett Ochoa, who designed the mosaic and coordinated its elaboration, as well as to all the people who participated.
