The compassion of the Samaritan: loving by bearing another’s pain
Pope Leo XIV evokes the image of the Good Samaritan: his open and attentive gaze towards the sick man, the gaze of Jesus, which led him to human closeness and solidarity.
Serving others is loving God in practice. On this day, let us appeal to compassion and mercy towards the sick and the needy, as well as towards those who care for them. May this fraternal ‘Samaritan’ dimension, inclusive, courageous, committed and supportive, which has its most intimate roots in our union with God, never be lacking in our lives.
